LORD TFD® Steer-By-Wire Device
The LORD TFD® Steer-By-Wire Device is a cost-effective and design-efficient feedback solution for improving by-wire control and safety. Unlike electric-motor feedback devices, which can transmit unwanted and potentially hazardous forces to the operator, the LORD TFD produces a continuously variable resistive steering torque, delivering high-fidelity “feel” and maximum control to the operator. Available in standard 12 Nm and 5 Nm torque configurations, these devices are ready for immediate integration and evaluation in your by-wire project.
The Value LORD MR Provides
LORD feedback systems based on MR technologies offer several advantages over electric-motor feedback devices:
- Compact, energy efficient design, high torque density per unit volume
- Turnkey, integrated solution providing steering wheel attachment, bearing supports, sensing, and force feedback
- Scalable to your production needs, request a quotation today.
Integrated, efficient device design. LORD TFD Steer-By-Wire Devices integrate all functions required for the operator interface (force feedback, bearing support, sensing and electronics) into a single “plug-and-play” device. Duplication of functions is eliminated, resulting in the most space-efficient and cost-effective design possible. The MR-based steering feedback system is one example.
MR Technology at Work
A leading forklift manufacturer, Linde Material Handling, uses LORD TFD Steer-By-Wire Devices to provide tactile feedback for its steer-by-wire reach trucks. Replacing the hydraulic steering system with a steer-by-wire system enabled Linde to design a lighter vehicle with a smaller footprint and fewer parts. It also reduced electricity usage and extended the battery life, while improving the quality of steering feel.
