Case Study
Extended Life Engine System Will Lower Direct Operating Costs for Citation CJ3 Owners
Customer
Cessna Aircraft Company for its new light business jet, the Citation CJ3.
Challenge
LORD was tasked with developing an extended-life isolation system that could be tested for worst-case scenarios such as bird strike ingestion and fan blade-out event early in the program.
Solution
LORD Corporation furnished a new version of its well-know traditional rubber-to-metal engine suspension system as well as a variety of interior isolators for the Citation CJ3. By combining a single load path, multiple load paths, as well as the probabilistic fracture mechanic approach, LORD customized a robust, lightweight isolator system offering superior acoustic performance.
Results
The engine isolation system was designed to surpass Cessna’s requirements and offer an 8,000-hour life capability, or two-times engine overhaul. This longevity will reduce maintenance and direct operations costs to the operators.
