A global truck manufacturer, developing a common engine suspension platform required a rear engine mount that could adapt to three truck lines in six configurations on four continents. A solution was required in a tight time frame.
A team of more than 30 LORD employees from five countries worked with representative from each of the three truck lines. LORD implemented a project strategy to provide solutions one step ahead of the customer's accelerated project schedule, allowing LORD to provide a prototype of the solution during the proposal presentation. LORD established a communication system including face-to-face and electronic interactions to ensure that timely and accurate information was shared.
While exceeding every technical requirement and meeting design-to-cost targets, the global production was launched within 21 months – a time frame unmatched in the industry.
In developing a concept of a combined rotary- and fixed-wing aircraft, a major manufacturer found the new rotor system would require unique, flight-critical elastomeric components that were lightweight and durable.
Because the manufacturer had a long-standing relationship with LORD, they trusted that LORD was familiar with their needs and mission-critical nature of the required parts. An existing LORD account team was selected for the project and worked on-site with the manufacturer in designing, analyzing and testing the new rotor system. During flight testing, normal operating conditions generated more heat than was initially anticipated, and an alternate design with a new elastomer formulation was quickly incorporated.
Developed through this trusted relationship, the successful integration of these state-of-the-art elastomeric components made this innovative aircraft possible.
A manufacturer of DC-DC power converters required an innovative, cost-effective, enhanced thermal solution to meet the needs of the evolving electronic devices for telecommunication applications.
LORD worked with the manufacturer's procurement and engineering staff to develop production capacity and material requirements that could compete with large global suppliers. The LORD team's combined experience and knowledge of this industry’s processes assisted the manufacturer in transitioning to an electrically insulative silicone polymer.
This innovative solution reduced manufacturing cycle time from 45 seconds to just 15, and increased the thermal capability of the product. By anticipating the future needs of the industry, LORD technology was able to provide our customer a competitive advantage with a product that is unparalleled in thermal conductivity and low viscosity.
A global auto manufacturer faced a significant hem-sealing problem on a new model design which threatened the vehicle launch, potentially resulting in the loss of millions of dollars in profits.
LORD proprietary adhesive technology, developed through working with other automotive customers, solved their sealing problem. In collaboration with the manufacturer's engineering team, LORD adjusted the adhesive chemistry to meet the manufacturer’s specific needs and deliver a solution that allowed them to evolve their production process to a clean, efficient robotic operation.
This collaboration enabled the customer to remain on schedule and maintain quality standards while lowering their equipment and operating costs. The customer has since converted two additional models to the LORD technology and process solution.
A global forklift truck manufacturer needed to create a steer-by-wire system to enhance operator feedback and safety. The solution required less power consumption and a smaller size than initially specified due to alterations of the initial motor design. Without a solution, the manufacturer would be forced to redesign the vehicle.
The manufacturer contacted LORD after reviewing LORD magneto-rheological-enabled (MR) technology information on the Internet. Working with the manufacturer, LORD designed a product providing enhanced operator control and safety, while also reducing part complexity, weight and size.
The need for vehicle redesign was eliminated by a steer-by-wire product utilizing a unique LORD technology that met the manufacturer’s design and safety needs. LORD shipped the finished product within nine months.
