LORD Corporation has announced the availability of laminated spherical riser tensioner bearings.Developed in response to the industry need for an alternative to conventional ball joints, shackles and complex linkages, LORD Corporation's solution provides a long lasting bearing or connection, and provides improved tensioning system dynamics and longevity. The laminated elastomeric bearing consists of thin layers of rubber and metal to support smooth movement for cylinders or actuators in a riser tensioner system for deep water platforms and drilling rigs with dry trees.
Capable of providing lower side loads on cylinder seals greater than ten times in normal operation and greater than 2,000 times in seized scenarios, improving system dynamics and extending connection and system life, this product is an extension of LORD Corporation's helicopter main rotor bearing business. Similar to the flexible joints used offshore for SCR's and TLP connectors, this is an innovative solution for all levels of the top-tension riser systems value chain worldwide, including operators, EPC's, and FEED contractors.
