New Epoxy Encapsulant Developed By LORD Corporation For Oil & Gas Industry
(04/12/2012)
LORD Corporation has announced the availability of a new high temperature epoxy encapsulant designed to provide better heat dissipation and shock protection.Developed to withstand the harsh downhole environment faced by those in the Oil and Gas industry, the LORD® EL-646 epoxy encapsulant material provides superior heat dissipation, excellent moisture resistance, and the ability to withstand extreme operating temperatures.
Designed to provide excellent thermal conductivity for electrical/electronic applications, LORD® EL-646 is a two-component system with capabilities of providing high thermal conductivity for applications where superior heat dissipation is required. The EL-646 retains desirable properties associated with epoxies. It can be used on parts and devices that experience broad operating temperatures ranging from -55 to 250 degrees Celsius. Providing protection of electrical devices exposed to harsh environmental conditions, EL-646 exhibits low weight loss over extended periods at elevated temperatures for added durability.
According to Jim Greig, Sales Manager of LORD Electronic Materials, EL-646 addresses the weakness of typical epoxies that cannot operate at the high temperatures that are prevalent in downhole applications. By increasing the thermal conductivity of the material, LORD has enabled Electrical Submersible Pumps (ESPs) to stay downhole longer, reducing non productive time.
