New Heat Reflective Coatings For Automotive Suspension Systems
(09/28/2011)

New Heat-Reflective Coatings (HRCs) are available from LORD Corporation.
Designed for use on automotive suspension systems, LORD® HRCs reflect radiant heat and provide protection against ozone and fluids, such as oil and gas, reducing degradation rate of automotive elastomeric components and lengthening service life.
With applications for exhaust hangers, engine mounts, body mounts, C.V. boots, transmission mounts, cam covers, exhaust intake manifolds and valve covers, LORD HRCs have the ability to withstand harsh environmental conditions, the HRCs provide superior resistance to fuels, aggressive oils and solvents. Further, they are cost-effective and enable the bulk of the part to be produced with low-cost materials then coated with HRC for environmental resistance.
According to Todd Wallis, Automotive Marketing Manager, Americas, LORD Corporation, LORD HRCs improve performance, lower costs and reduce weight. "Parts made out of less expensive elastomer, such as EPDM, and coated with HRC exhibit equivalent or better performance over the same part made out of a more expensive elastomer like silicone, for example. Also, by eliminating heat shields from engine compartments, you can achieve increased design flexibility and benefit from weight savings that will contribute towards meeting Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) requirements," said Wallis.
