LORD Corporation Expands Electromechanical Business

LORD Corporation - a leader in the management of vibration, noise and motion control - is pleased to announce the expansion of their electromechanical business with the launch of Active Vibration Control System (AVCS) for the Eurocopter EC130 T2 platform. Initial product deliveries began in late 2011.
Unveiled by Eurocopter during the 2012 Heli-Expo exhibition in Dallas, Texas, the EC130 T2 is designed to excel in a broad range of missions, from aerial tourism and utility to emergency medical airlift.
Contributing to the success of the EC130-T2 platform, LORD Corporation's proven AVCS technology was selected for the aircraft. Designed to reduce vibration in the helicopter fuselage generated by the main rotor, LORD AVCS is a state-of-the-art, patented system that controls steady state and transient vibration, even during start up and extreme flight maneuvers. Key benefits of an AVCS include:
• Reduce Weight - Eliminates heavy passive vibration absorbers
• Improve Comfort - Reduces occupant vibration levels in both the cockpit and cabin
• Improve Performance - Enables expanded flight envelope within aircraft design limits and extended range
• Reduce Direct Maintenance Cost - Lowers aircraft vibration levels resulting in less vibration induced fatigue of structures and equipment
Accelerometers measure aircraft vibration levels and signals are sent to a centralized computer. The computer is running a software algorithm that interprets the signals and sends commands to force generators located throughout the aircraft. These force generators create "anti-vibration" that stops the progression of vibration due to the main rotor.
About the EC130 T2
While retaining the EC130's existing external lines, approximately 70 percent of the EC130 T2's airframe structure has been modified for this update. The EC130 T2 has logged 90 flight hours since its first flight in 2011, demonstrating excellent maturity of the new configuration for a certification scheduled this summer. Final assembly of the initial series production aircraft began last December at Eurocopter's Marignane, France facility. By the second half of 2012, production will transition completely to the EC130 T2 version.
