Mechanical Engineering Student Associate, Spring or Summer 2017

Qualified applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited degree program and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
LORD Corporation has multiple openings in Manufacturing and Quality at our Amherst facility for talented and creative students enrolled in a mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, quality or related degree program who are looking to gain experience in a wide variety of areas in an industry environment. Please specify areas/positions of interest in a cover letter.
  • Quality: Interns may assist with planning, coordinating, and completing broadly defined quality engineering tasks, assignments or small projects to ensure compliance with customer technical expectations. Candidates may work with Black Belt on Global Process Improvement projects utilizing Six Sigma DMAIC process. Interns could also assist with completion of gap analysis for new requirements, aid in management of audit data and closure, provide data analysis or investigation in projects and provide backup and improvement measures in technical spec review.
  • Manufacturing: Assignments may include a variety of mechanical related tasks including working with the manufacturing engineers on shop floor execution, cost saving initiatives, troubleshooting, quality improvements, manufacturing instructions, etc. Typical tasks could also include data entry, computer analysis, researching potential vendors for new components or materials, application engineering, part change notice processing, customer print reviews/reviewing and understanding customer needs and expectations. Interns may also triage incoming technical questions and provide for LORD customers, as well as assist with documentation review.
Qualified candidates must be actively pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering, Quality, or related degree program with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

  • Proven ability to handle confidential information. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel. 
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong analytical, mechanical conceptualization, and problem solving capabilities 
  • Strong computer proficiency and the ability to quickly learn new applications 
  • Detail-oriented individual with demonstrated organizational skills  
  • Ability to work independently (with minimal supervision) and within a team environment. 
  • Must be able to prioritize work and handle multiple tasks 
  • Some experience making technical presentations and report writing 
  • Strong innovation and creative thinking; self-motivated
