(Cary, N.C. – May 19, 2017) – LORD Corporation – a leader in developing and manufacturing high-performance adhesive products – held their Sixth Annual International Rubber Journey 2017 on May 3-4 at the Hotel Hacienda Jurica in Queretaro, Mexico. More than 150 attendees from throughout Mexico and various countries in Central and South America including Costa Rica, Colombia and El Salvador participated in the event.
"The event was a success once again, thanks to the efforts of LORD and the sponsors who year after year are confident in the development and growth of the rubber industry on our continent,” says Gerardo Frías, general manager of LORD Mexico and Central America.
The event included:
- A tour at Pioneer manufacturing facilities;
- Training at LORD Corporation on best practices for mold release, rheology and failure tests;
- An overview of the Queretaro Automotive Cluster;
- Training on contaminated parts, metal preparation, coating process, processability of silicon and fluorinated compounds, semi-permanent mold release for increased efficiency and low-mold fouling;
- Fabrication guide to improved processing and trouble-shooting; and
- Workshops on failure analysis, how to avoid sweeping problems and cracks within the rubber molding process, as well as details on adhesive systems, liquid silicone and more.
“The combination of technical conferences with workshops was the key of this training,” said conference attendee Victor Dvoskin, a representative of the Latin American Society of Rubber Technology.
In addition to the technical activities, customers currently using LORD Chemlok adhesives were invited to participate in a contest in which they registered an improvement project that highlighted advances related to quality, productivity and savings. LORD announced Industrias Automotrices RC as the winner during the International Rubber Journey 2017 for the company’s outstanding results obtained from the project.
“The workshops helped us find areas of opportunity in our manufacturing processes,” says Sergio Cruz, CEO of Industrias Automotrices RC. “Being able to network during the event also enriched the experience.”
LORD also showcased a new aqueous mold release product, LORD LokRelease™ 210, designed for use with molded elastomers including EPDM, natural rubber, nitrile and neoprene. The water-based mold release provides a nontransferable, noninterfering, anti-stick coating for fast and easy part removal from molds. Process enhancing capabilities include low build-up, allowing more production between mold cleaning; and improved efficiency in processes such as injection, compression and transfer molding.
LORD LokRelease 210 aqueous mold release offers improved appearance by reducing defects caused by sticking, while its nontransferable properties eliminate post-finishing properties. This water-based coating also helps prevent rust and corrosion in steel molds.
Jim Hynds, sales engineer of Turbo Spray and an attendee of International Rubber Journey 2017, notes, “As usual, another great IRJ show!”
