Today we announced that Boeing selected us as their cockpit Auto Throttle Module (ATM) supplier on the 737 MAX, a significant win that also happens to be the biggest contract in our 94-year history. We shared this great news at our LORD Electromechanical Solutions facility in Saint-Vallier, France, yesterday, where we held a joint media event with Boeing. We also hosted various reporters, and local officials, who learned about this new venture and our cockpit control technology.
The ATM is an electromechanical system fitted into the cockpit as an interface between the pilot and the flight computer systems. This complex unit can work in manual configuration or connect to the auto pilot system of the aircraft. Development will begin this year with production starting in 2020.
This system design will be led by the LORD team in France and supported by the team in the US. Once production kicks off in 2020, the 737 Max ATM will be manufactured at the new LORD Solutions Valence (LSV) facility in France and at LORD Cambridge Springs (LCS) in the US.
Our media event began with an announcement to the press about the contract, followed by a facility tour where our cockpit control systems are currently produced. I had the pleasure of meeting with many members of the press and the Boeing team to discuss our partnership and commitment to the future of flight innovation.
We have a long history with Boeing in providing mission-critical components and are thrilled about embarking on this new journey with the 737 MAX team.
