Rubber Conference Fills Industry Gap

There are several industry-significant rubber conferences around the world; the International Elastomer Conference, DKT, India Rubber Expo, Brazilian Expobor and Shanghai Rubber Show are examples. However, Mexico did not have such a conference that focused on training the customers while exposing to them to the breadth of solutions available to them in the rubber industry. Neither was there a conference that provided a means for industry players to network together and learn from each other. 
 
With the onset of rapid growth of the manufacturing sector in Mexico, we identified this gap more than a decade ago. This idea stems from believing that the Mexican rubber industry would benefit from a conference in which industry experts gave presentations and shared their knowledge and experience with the young engineers and scientists entering the field. Working very closely with our rubber customers in this region, we developed an annual rubber conference in 2012 called the International Rubber Journey (IRJ). The name itself was meant to convey that we are on this journey together with our customers and partners to build the knowledge base of the rubber industry in Mexico. This conference takes place in Mexico every May and encourages audience participation through process workshops, industry presentations and networking opportunities.  
 
We wanted to show our customers and the industry that we are dedicated to educating and growing the rubber industry. Following our most recent show, Ana Gonzalez, president of Gonzalez Cano, said that “I’ve attended every International Rubber Journey to date and this one was the best so far.” By listening to our customers’ needs, we have been able to cultivate a conference that promotes and encourages this kind of education and is proving to be of great value to our customers. As Jacob Hernandez notes, IRJ is an “…extraordinary event, where attendees learned from practicing through the hands-on workshops delivered by experts and industry leaders. This event, also provided attendees with a forum to share with other industry-partners their expertise while strengthening the rubber-to-metal industry in the region.”
 
This year’s IRJ conference attendance was up 60% compared to that of 2017. Upon experiencing this conference in Mexico, our South American customers see the value of such a conference for their region, and thus the second IRJ Brazil will be held this October.
