Used in applications where safety, weight and cost are important, Sipiol® flame retardant (FR) coatings are a flexible and effective choice. When exposed to high temperatures, these coatings expand and protect components from flames. The elastomeric backbone in Sipiol FR is functional, protecting the underlying substrate from moisture, corrosion and fluid contamination.
Coatings are applied in a 75 micron layer and can achieve up to 300% elongation, while protecting the underlying substrate.
To protect against fire — where weight, envelope and cost require a multifunctional material — Sipiol FR coatings can be used on electric vehicle battery boxes and cells, common flammable infrastructure materials and elastomeric components. These coatings replace heavy steel components with aluminum or composites; mitigate the risk of fire or extend the evacuation time of automobile and housing occupants; and improve safety while reducing cost and complexity.
