Staying cool – Thermal Management Solutions When No Two Battery Packs are the Same

There is little standardization in the design of the most critical component of EVs – battery packs. Pack design is not standard, so why should your thermal management solutions be?

Dan Barber received the B.S. degree in chemistry from Furman University and the Ph.D. degree in inorganic chemistry from the University of Virginia. Dan has lead motor potting initiatives at LORD for 5 years and most recently is working on new product development of thermally conductive potting materials and gap fillers for motor and battery EV applications.


Thermal Management Materials
LORD’s thermal management portfolio is recognized for reliability and custom solutions for use in electric vehicles, energy storage systems, motors, and other power electronics.LORD CoolTherm products include potting and encapsulation, gap fillers, structural adhesives, gels and greases. They are offered in a variety of customizable thermally conductive chemistries including: silicones, epoxies, urethanes and acrylics to meet your performance, cost and schedule targets.

Structural Adhesives
Design flexibility and freedom are vital to create the next generation of EVs. Adhesives enable flexibility in picking substrates and designing joints, eliminating the need for mechanical fasteners.

Depend on strong, cost-effective coatings to provide insulating barriers around battery components. We offer a variety of coatings suited for different applications, including flame resistant (FR), UV-cure and magnet coatings.

LORD CoolTherm® gap fillers promote conduction by displacing any air that resides in both the large gaps and the microscopic rough surfaces that exist between the substrates to be bridged.
