( 08/31/2017 )
(Cary, NC – August 31, 2017) - LORD Corporation - a leading supplier of thermal management encapsulants, adhesives and gap fillers - will share its unique expertise at the upcoming Electric & Hybrid Vehicle Technology Expo and Conference.
The event, to be held in Novi, Mich., Sept. 12-14, is a forum for electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicle technologies that highlights advances right across the powertrain. From passenger and commercial vehicles to off-highway industrial vehicles, the manufacturing and engineering event showcases the latest innovations across a vast range of vehicles. Dan Barber, a staff scientist in Electronic Materials Technology at LORD Corporation, will participate in a panel discussion entitled, “Thermal Management in the Electric Vehicle: Beyond the Battery” on Wed., Sept. 13 at 2 p.m. (Track 3).
As part of this panel discussion, Barber will also give a presentation on “Optimizing Thermal Management in the EV Powertrain,” describing how high thermal conductivity materials can increase power density in chargers, power electronics and electric motors. Key themes of his presentation include the value of involving the materials supplier during the design phase; trends in EV powertrain development as well as cooling EV components; an overview of different materials including potting, gap fillers, thermal pads and adhesives; and case studies.
“The EV Tech Expo is a great opportunity for companies to learn about the latest technical trends in the EV market,” Barber said. “I’m looking forward to the opportunity to showcase LORD technologies that have proven to help OEMs and tier suppliers optimize their designs and make EVs more affordable for everyone.”
Barber earned his BSc in Chemistry at Furman University in Greenville, SC, and his PhD in Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, VA. Upon joining LORD in 2005, he served as an R&D scientist in the MR Solutions group, where he developed patented glycol-based magnetorheological fluids. He also has served as staff scientist in the Chemical Research and Open Technology Innovation groups, where he acted as technical lead and customer liaison on a number of new business development projects. He is currently working in Electronic Materials Technology to provide customer support for new applications of LORD thermal management materials, including potting and encapsulating materials and adhesives, in electric motors and power electronics.
