Unruh presently serves as recording secretary of Princeton University, his alma mater, following earlier assignments in the university’s admissions and development offices.  Unruh retired from the U.S. Navy in 2003 with the rank of rear admiral after thirty-three years of active duty and reserve service.  Following earlier at-sea and ashore assignments, Unruh’s tours as a flag officer include service as Deputy Commander, Maritime Defense Zone Atlantic; Commander, Navy Reserve Readiness Command, Midwest; and Deputy Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Atlantic Fleet.

Unruh is a director of the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation, a member of the advisory council of the Alumni and Friends of Princeton ROTC, and an honorary member of the Society of the Cincinnati (Maryland Chapter).  He has also served as the vice-chair of the William A. Procter Foundation, and as a director of the National Lacrosse Foundation and Hall of Fame, the Princeton Regional Scholarship Foundation, and the Princeton Club of New York.  He is a 2000 recipient of St. Paul’s School’s Outstanding Alumnus Award and a 2001 recipient of Princeton's Alumni Association Award for Distinguished Service to the University.

Born and raised in Baltimore, MD, Unruh is a 1970 graduate of Princeton University, where he was a recipient of a U.S. Navy ROTC Scholarship and concentrated in the Department of Politics and the Program in American Civilization, from which he graduated with distinction.  He also holds a Master’s degree in American Studies from the University of Hawaii and a Master’s degree in Education from Harvard University.

“We are honored to welcome retired Rear Admiral Kirk Unruh to the board,” said Ed Auslander, LORD president and CEO.  “We will benefit greatly from Kirk’s perspective and leadership as LORD charts a path for continued profitable growth and commercial excellence.”
